Girl gone back to the Midwest after a couple decades spent heartsick on the open sea (see: first post). These are a few of my stories about life growing up in what most people consider the flyover states, my journey west and my arrival home again. Consider it my memoir on the installment plan.

I've been at this reporter thing a long time. My most recent work has been featured on NPR’s Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Here & Now, and Latino USA. Before my return to the Midwest in 2011, I was a multimedia producer at The Orange County Register in Southern California. Before that, I was a reporter at the late, great Rocky Mountain News, the Denver Post, KBCO (coolest radio station ever) and the Associated Press. I spent the best (academic) year of my life as a Mike Wallace Fellow for Investigative Reporting at the University of Michigan in 2008-2009.
